You can also reach here through the local buses of Mumbai. This centre is very accessible from the local train network and is very near to Mahalaxmi/ Mumbai central train stations.
History of Nehru Planetarium
Inaugurated by the then prime minister of India Mrs. Indira Gandhi, this centre was conceptualized to inculcate a sense and flair for astronomical science in the young brains of India. The round dome of the Nehru Planetarium is in name of the erstwhile prime minister of India Mr. Jawahar Lal Nehru who was very famous amongst the children of India. Nehru Planetarium is basically an educational Endeavour of the government of India this was started to inculcate and educate the young Indians about the marvels of the universe, The Nehru planetarium since then has been working hard to achieve the goals set right in the beginning. The centre has an excellent library where more than 30,000 books based on the subject are available for ready reference to the scholars. There are live shows which focus on the astronomy and show case the basics and complicated topics of the subject. The shows on astronomy are held in various languages. The show timings are based on the languages. Apart from Hindi and English the show is also held in Marathi language. The centre also showcases the live astronomical events as they happen through their instruments.
